What to Bring to a Halloween Party (That Isn't Another Bag of Sweets)

If you're wondering what to bring to a Halloween party, bring something people will actually finish. A box of proper bakes works almost anywhere: dark chocolate brownies, thick cookies, a few golden blondies. Individually wrapped, no knife or plates needed, and good enough that nobody's eating it out of politeness.

Halloween has a way of sneaking up on you. One minute it's September, the next you're in a supermarket aisle at 7pm, holding a bag of fun-size sweets and wondering whether that counts as effort. It doesn't. Everyone else had the same idea.

So here's our take, from a Manchester bakery that bakes, packs and posts every day: what to bring, depending on the kind of Halloween you've been invited to.

Why a box of proper bakes beats another bag of sweets

Sweets are fine. They're just forgettable. A good bake gets noticed, and it gets finished. Here's why a box of ours works better:

  • Individually wrapped. Every piece is sealed on its own. No knives, no plates, no one hacking at a tray with a butter knife. People can take one now and one for later.
  • Real ingredients. Real butter, free-range eggs, organic flour and Callebaut Belgian chocolate. No preservatives, no artificial colours, no palm oil.
  • Made like home. Baked fresh by hand in our own bakery, the way you'd bake it if you had the time. No shortcuts.
  • Keeps up to 14 days. At room temperature or in the fridge, so your box can arrive days before the party and still be at its best on the night.

One honest note before we go on. We don't make Halloween-decorated bakes. No icing ghosts, no googly eyes. We bake our usual range, properly. The dark ones just happen to suit the night.

Bringing something to a grown-up Halloween party

If you're heading to a friend's place for an evening of costumes, drinks and someone's carefully curated horror playlist, you want something that feels like a grown-up choice. Not a multipack.

What makes a good thing to bring here: rich, indulgent, easy to eat with a drink in the other hand, and dark enough to look the part on the table.

Our picks:

  • Oreo Brownie. Black and white, crunch and cocoa. It looks the part without trying.
  • Chocolate Brownie. Deep, fudgy, with a crackled top. The classic for a reason.
  • Red Velvet Cookie. A deep red finish, coloured with beetroot rather than dye, with creamy white chocolate chunks. Quietly dramatic.

If you're wondering what snacks to bring to a Halloween party for adults, this is the shortlist. They'll be gone before the second film starts.

Halloween at the office: treats for colleagues

Halloween treats for work have a slightly different job. They need to survive a meeting, a desk and a colleague who "only wants a little bit". Individually wrapped is the big one here: hygienic, tidy, and easy to leave in the kitchen with a note that says "help yourself".

What makes a good office treat: easy to share, no mess, clearly labelled, and enough to go round.

Our picks:

  • Lotus Biscoff Brownie. Warm, spiced and caramel-ish. Very autumn, very popular.
  • Walnut Chocolate Cookie. Thick, chewy, with toasted walnuts. For colleagues who like a bit of texture.
  • Millionaire Shortbread. Buttery shortbread, slow-cooked caramel, milk chocolate on top. Dangerously easy to cut "just one more" of.

A box of 12 suits a team. For a bigger office, order a few different boxes, so there's something for everyone. Our For Work collection is a good place to start when you're choosing Halloween treats for colleagues.

A family Halloween get-together

Some Halloweens are less about costumes and more about family: the kids back from trick-or-treating, grandparents round for tea, someone handing out sweets at the door while the kettle goes on.

What makes a good thing to bring here: something that suits every age, isn't too strange, and can sit on the side while everyone comes and goes.

Our picks:

  • Chocolate Brownie. Nobody turns down a proper chocolate brownie. Not the kids, not the grandparents.
  • Our blondies. Golden, buttery and chewy, with caramel notes from the brown sugar. A gentler option for anyone who isn't after deep, dark chocolate.

Everything is individually wrapped, so it's easy to share out and put a few aside for later.

A cosy Halloween night in

Not every Halloween needs a party. Sometimes the best plan is curtains closed, lights low, a horror film you've seen ten times and something good within reach. If you're after Halloween night in ideas, this is ours: skip the bowl of crisps and open a box of something better.

What makes a good night-in treat: indulgent, a bit moody, and good straight from the box. No plates required.

Our picks:

  • Oreo Brownie or Chocolate Brownie for deep, dark comfort.
  • Red Velvet Cookie for something a little theatrical.

Keep a couple back. They keep for up to 14 days, so the night in can quietly turn into a week of them.

Hosting your own Halloween party

If you're the one hosting, you already have enough to think about: decorations, drinks, music, the guest who always arrives early. As we said in our post about a stress-free Christmas table, the smart move is to take dessert off your list.

When it comes to Halloween party food ideas for adults, the hosts who look most relaxed are the ones who didn't try to make everything themselves. Order a few boxes, put them out on a board, and spend the evening with your guests instead of your oven.

A mix of dark and golden works well on the table: a box of Chocolate or Oreo brownies, a box of our blondies and a box of cookies.

Going as a guest to someone you don't know well

Invited by a friend of a friend? A new colleague's house? You want something safe, generous and easy to hand over at the door.

A box of proper bakes does the job. It's not too personal, not too fussy, and it doesn't require the host to find a vase. Bring a box of Chocolate Brownies, the safest bet we know, and you'll be remembered for the right reasons.

Getting it there in time

Halloween is on 31 October every year, and it still catches people out. Here's how our delivery works:

  • Order before 2pm and, if everything's in stock, we dispatch the same day on a next-day tracked service.
  • Most deliveries arrive within one to two working days of dispatch.
  • Order a few working days before 31 October, and a little earlier if Halloween falls on a weekend.

Because our bakes keep for up to 14 days, there's no harm in ordering early. For more on how we pack and send everything, read how we send brownies in the post. And for keeping them at their best once they've arrived, here's how to store your bakes for maximum freshness.

A note on allergens

We bake in an open kitchen, so our products contain, and can come into contact with, allergens including gluten, dairy, eggs and nuts. Some bakes also include branded ingredients like Oreo and Lotus Biscoff. Full allergen details are on every product page. If you're bringing something to share, it's worth checking with the host about any guests with allergies.

Frequently asked questions

What should I bring to a Halloween party if I can't bake?

Bring a box of something properly baked. Brownies, cookies or blondies are easy to share, need no plates or knives when they're individually wrapped like ours, and look far more considered than a bag of sweets.

Can you send treats straight to the party or host?

Yes. Just put the host's address in as the delivery address at checkout. We'll pack it, post it on a tracked service and send it straight to them.

Do you do Halloween-themed bakes?

No. We don't make Halloween-decorated bakes. We bake our usual range, properly, with real ingredients. The darker bakes, like the Oreo Brownie, Chocolate Brownie and Red Velvet Cookie, just suit the night.

Can I mix flavours in one box?

Not at the moment. Each box is a single flavour, so every tray we open is used fresh and allergens stay separate. For a range, order a few different boxes together. They'll arrive in the same order.

How far ahead can I order?

Our bakes keep for up to 14 days at room temperature or in the fridge, so ordering a few days or even a week ahead of the party is fine. They can also be frozen for up to 6 months.

Something worth bringing

Whatever kind of Halloween you're heading to, bring something people will actually go back for. Made like home, with real ingredients and no shortcuts.
